How to started and how to stay motivated

​How ironic that I’m writing a blog post,

Let me rephrase that,

I’m trying to write a blog post,

Let me rephrase that,

I’m trying to get started on writing a blog post titled getting started.

And I’m really struggling to get started on writing this blog post titled getting started.

BUT,

​Look what’s happening,

Just by writing anything I’ve actually started,

How did I do it?

I just started,

I did what came to me and I didn’t over think it,

I didn’t let my head get in the way,

Even as I type these words my head is telling me to stop because I am making no sense whatsoever and you the reader is getting no value from these words so what’s the point, I may as well stop and just admire my surroundings (sat in the gym café by the pool with the Local Rugby team just across from me, man they’re big, like really bit),

STOP!!

That last paragraph was my head, all of it, some call it procrastination, some call it self sabotage,

but whatever it is, it’s not helping me get closer to my goal of writing a blog post about getting started and giving you some incredible value so that you feel as though you haven’t wasted your time by coming here because that is the very last thing I want for you is to have your precious time wasted.

So let’s get into it,

How to get started,

Or how to get motivated,

Or how to take action,

Or how to stop procrastinating,

Or how to stop self sabotage.

Note: There’s a link at the end of this blog post to one of my most favourite ted talks ever that is about 20 minutes long and goes into a little more detail about what actually happens and why it happens at the moment of you deciding to take action and it’s definitely worth a watch.

So first things first,

Do what I’ve done here,

JUST START.

And yes it’s as simple (not easy) as it sounds.

What do you want?

A better body?

More energy?

More confidence?

A better relationship?

More success with your business or career?

What do you want?

And as soon as you decide what you want all you have to do is take the VERY NEXT STEP.

Not ALL OF THE STEPS (Which is what your head tries to do which leads to overwhelm and eventually fear and once you’re in overwhelm and fearville, it’s very hard to get out of them, so don’t even go there)

How do you avoid going into overwhelm and fear?

Take the VERY NEXT STEP.

And then it’s as simple as taking the very next step.

Struggle to get up in the mornings to do a workout?

What’s the very next step?

Set an alarm for 30 minutes earlier?

Do that now.

Then do the very next step.

What’s the next step after that?

Get your gym kit ready?

Do that as soon as you’ve set your alarm.

What’s the next step after that?

Get a post workout shake/meal ready?

Do that now.

What’s the next step after that?

You get my point.

WATCH OUT!!!

I can almost guarantee while you’re sat there reading this you’re already thinking about what you want,

BUT,

You’re also thinking about why you can’t do it,

Am I right?

If I am then you’re in your head,

Which means you’re already in fear and overwhelm,

Which means you will not take action on what it is you want.

Which means you’re setting yourself up for repeating this pattern over and over and over and over again all the way to your grave.

And just imagine getting to your grave and meeting all the versions of you that you could have been had you just taken the very next step instead of getting all up in your head and telling yourself why you can’t or shouldn’t.

Ever watched a kid, or a dog?

That’s what it looks like to act in the now and go after what you want.

School beat that out of you,

but I’m here to gently reattach that part of you,

The part that is detached from the outcome of your actions,

because that’s also anoither reason why you’re not taking action on what you want,

You FEAR either getting what you want and not knowing how to deal with it OR you fear being rejected or not getting what you’re going after because that would mean an attack on your precious little ego.

WAKE UP CALL,

You do not need your ego if you want to get what you want.

You need to listen to what you want,

And you need to take immediate action.

Because if I haven’t told you already,

YOU’RE GUNNA DIE,

One day,

And that day, all of your dreams and hopes and wishes will die with you.

So go get started,

And I’ll look forward to seeing a wave of dream chasers on social media breaking the norms of procrastination, delay, waiting and worrying.

What you want is waiting for you,

All you gotta do is take the VERY NEXT STEP.
